Hugh Payton(Chair)
Hugh has over thirty years experience of charities and the voluntary sector through his association with the British Dyslexia Association and membership of the Wiltshire Dyslexia Association. Before retirement he was a senior telecommunications manager within BT and designed and implemented large world-wide computer installations.
Margaret Jackson (Café Lead Person)
Margaret moved to the parish of St Keverne in 1986. She worked in care homes across the Lizard and in Penzance during the 1990's, both as a carer and an activity organiser for residents with a variety of needs, including dementia.
On a personal level members of her own extended family have suffered from memory loss, thus giving her a good understanding of this condition and the needs of those with memory loss, along with their carers.
In her spare time Margaret loves reading, keeping her hands busy with baking and knitting, meeting with friends for coffee, Camera Group, Knit 'n' Natter, Friday Fun games afternoon, Ladies Fellowship, and spending evenings watching various television dramas with her husband.
Beverly Payton (Secretary)
Hi, my name is Bev. I’ve lived near Coverack for over seven years. I trained as a nurse and midwife in Bath and worked in many different healthcare settings in North Wiltshire. I have also worked in the charity sector and done copywriting for various websites.
My interest in volunteering for the memory café is prompted by my own experience of the joys and woes of helping to care for my mum, who had vascular dementia for a number of years before she died in 2017. Recently I completed Tier 2 Dementia Training with Kernow Health CIC. Other interests include writing, art history, music and anything to do with cricket.
Catherine Brown
I moved to St Keverne from Hampshire, in order to be near my son and his young family. I am originally from Hungary but spent most of my adult life in this country. I retired from the World Service a good few years ago, and have always been active in the volunteering field back in Hampshire, helping both the young and the older generation. I have a diploma in counselling from South Downs College. After I arrived in the village joined the lunch club community service, and when that closed down due to Covid, I joined the initiative to set up the Forget-Me-Not Memory Cafe in St Keverne. I have participated in local courses organised to raise awareness regarding dementia and visited other memory cafes in West Cornwall. My other interests are gardening, painting and music.
